Tasmanian Expedition 01/03/2010

David has just set off on a trip to Tasmania to collect some of the beautiful native timbers to the area such as Huon Pine.
Huon Pine is salvaged along the river systems at altitudes of 150 to 600 metres deep.
The fifth oldest tree, Huon pine is a very slow growing tree and has a age of 2,500 years.
Tasmanian's endemic tree is famous around the world as an extremely durable boat-building timber. With its golden colour and workable texture it makes beautiful furniture.

Huon Pine has a distinctive sweet smell.

Harvesting: 08/02/2010

Early 2010 we are harvesting 10 large Bunya trees from the Montville area. These magnificent trees will be air dried then put into our kilns here in Maleny and available for purchase in 6-8 months.  Bunya makes beautiful furniture, and is also used in the making of musical instruments such as guitars.
Bunya Pine is a native to maleny.
Maleny holds a bunya festival each year in celebration of the tree.
